Marie Curie Residence Hall

213 new accommodation beds for Politecnico students

Politecnico di Milano's new 'Marie Curie' student residence hall has been inaugurated. It offers accommodation beds for 213 students more. The building, located in Piazzale Ferrara, in the south-east area of Milan, has been lent for use for 30 years by the Municipality of Milan to our University, free of charge. The opening ceremony was attended by Donatella Sciuto, Rector of Politecnico di Milano; Veronica Marrocu, President of the Student Board; Anna Scavuzzo, Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Education of the Municipality of Milan; and Paolo Franco, Councillor for Housing and Social Housing of Regione Lombardia. The project was presented by Graziano Dragoni, General Director of our University.

The project consisted in an interesting action of renovation and redevelopment of the existing building stock serving the Corvetto district and the city of Milan, and has brought the number of student accommodation beds offered by Politecnico to 3,000. The works enabled the renovation of the ALER Milano building, and are part of the overall redevelopment of the city's fringe areas; total cost was to €12 million. The project, designed in 2017, involved the consolidation of the existing structures and the realisation of new structural, civil and MEP engineering works.

Sixty per cent of its places are for DSU students (€ 2,600 deducted from the scholarship). The costs for the remaining places range from € 6,000 to € 7,700 for 11 months, depending on the type of accommodation. The project was made possible thanks to funding from the Ministry of University and Research, Regione Lombardia and Fondazione Politecnico, with contributions from the Municipality of Milan and ALER Milano. The works were realised by Notarimpresa S.p.A.
