The National University of Ireland Galway was first established in 1845 and initially opened to teach just 68 students. Today, it¿s home students taught across four colleges such as the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies and the College of Science and Engineering. NUI Galway is one of Ireland's most international universities and Galway is Ireland's most diverse city. NUI Galway has established partnerships with some of the key cultural organisations in the region to boost teaching and research in the arts. Galway is renowned as a place where arts and culture are celebrated, reinterpreted and shared with the world and has been designated European Capital of Culture 2020. Over 12 percent of students at the university are classified as international and the university regularly features in the QS World University Rankings.
