Smart Eyewear Lab

Smart glasses of the future  

The collaboration between Politecnico di Milano and EssilorLuxottica has given rise to Smart Eyewear Lab, the first-ever joint research centre dedicated to designing the smart glasses of the future. The Lab combines industrial research and experimental development of next-generation wearables, integrating digital technologies with expertise in bioengineering, physics and AI. 

With an initial duration of five years, Smart Eyewear Lab will bring together more than 100 researchers and scientists in a high-level, synergetic and international research environment.

Main research areas

Eye-tracking

Development of hardware technology and algorithms to analyze user gaze patterns, navigation through environments, and interactions within a scene.

Camera and sensor

Integration of cameras and sensors into the eyewear to collect and analyze data, assessing user states and contextual surroundings.

03  

Optical integration

Development of optical systems for image projection, integration of projection systems and near-eye displays.

Professionals

Professionals at the Smart Eyewear Lab are junior or senior principal investigators. They lead activities related to a specific research stream, focused on developing smart glasses through the integration of new hardware, algorithms and software.
