POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE OF LEIRIA, ESAD

The Escola Superior de Artes and design Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR) of the Polytechnic of Leiria, is a teaching and research institute founded in 1990 with a wide international and national recognition. It is located in Caldas da Rainha, a city of art on the central Atlantic coast of Portugal, near Lisbon, characterized by a creative, stimulating and pleasant environment. At ESAD.CR, the teaching model focuses on the development of the project, on the realization of concepts oriented by critical and humanistic reflection. The interdisciplinary, creative training model, supported by appropriate technologies, prepares students for the needs of the present and the future. Personalized teaching, up-to-date research and particular attention to emerging professional areas make this university a reference point on the national and international scene. The main building of the school was designed and built around study and workshop spaces, being one of the most unique and complete projects of national artistic teaching. Its campus is built around four spacious and well-equipped buildings, including oak and pine trees. Its well-equipped laboratories and workshops allow access to the most varied technologies, from traditional ones such as analogue photography, printing, screen printing, ceramics, wood or metal, to the most modern ones such as video and digital photography , sound, digital printing, prototyping and 3D or multimedia printing. Internationalization is the essence of ESAD.CR, since it is one of the ways through which it becomes possible to position oneself in the contemporary world. This openness to the world enriches the creative potential, highlights the work done and allows students to make themselves visible in international science.
