Founded in 1868 to provide the state of Bavaria with a natural science learning center, the Technische Universitat Munchen (TUM) played a vital role in Europe's technological progress. It is committed to progress and innovation in the areas of science that promise sustainable improvement in the way people and society live. To achieve this goal, interdisciplinary research areas have been created in: Health and nutrition, Energy and natural resources, Environment and climate, Information and communications, Mobility and infrastructure. The university is included in international networks together with numerous and prestigious institutes. The educational offer has been developed to allow students to develop their talents in close contact with experienced scientists with experience. Intellectual and emotional creativity, cultural sensitivity and social skills are as important as professionalism and entrepreneurial courage. The TUM covers four large sites in Bavaria: Munich, Garching, Weihenstephan and Straubing which host 15 departments and research facilities, and a branch in Singapore, opened in 2002 that made it the first German university with a campus at abroad. Furthermore, TUM has consistently been classified for years as the German university whose graduates are better prepared to enter the world of work. She regularly obtains excellent results in various university rankings, for example, she is ranked seventh among the "most innovative universities in Europe" and is listed as the best German university in the "world ranking of QS universities".
