UNAL, Universidad Nacional de Colombia was created in 1867 as a university institution with full autonomy connected to the Ministry of National Education, with public and state special scheme. It fulfils functions to promote development of higher education at its highest levels, to facilitate access and enhance education, research, sciences and artistic creation to achieve the excellence. Thanks to its national character, the aim is to contribute to the identity of the nation while respecting its diversity. The institution consists of eight locations: Amazonia, Caribe, Bogotá, Manizales, Medellín, Orinoquia, Palmira, Tumaco. Its Faculty of Engineering aims to train professionals able to answer to the needs of society, with a commitment to scientific research and technological and social development of the country. In this way it wants to contribute to the transformation of the country through the creation, conservation and transfer of knowledge, both to public and private sector, through technological innovation and transfer of know-how produced by members of the department's academic community.
