Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María UTFSM was founded in 1931 thanks to the dream of the philanthropist Federico Santa Maria Carrera which made possible to create a high quality engineering university recognized worldwide, an institute of higher education able to give to outstanding young people, but with small resources, the opportunity to study, providing in this way a tool of social mobility that can promote fairness for all citizens. The history of the University is marked by a clear training in engineering, science and technology, and by the promotion of an approach to education through the development of culture, physical and sports activities, supporting activities and entrepreneurial skills. UTFSM's mission is to become a well-recognized institution in the world of engineering,architecture, science and technology, while maintaining the commitment of its founder to allow access to all students. Valparaíso is a major city, seaport, and educational center in the commune of Valparaíso, Chile. Valparaíso is one of the South Pacific's most important seaports and has seven universities. The historic quarter of Valparaíso was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The UTFSM has been historically perceived as one of the most prestigious schools in the country and more recently, has been placed among the top Universities in Chile and South America.
