Escola Politécnica da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - Poli-UFRJ is the largest Federal Institute of Engineering Education in Brazil. Founded in 1792, it has been the first study programme of engineering in the Americas and the first higher education programme in the country. It is one of the three best engineering institutes in the national rankings and among the top 500 best international universities. It promotes technical and human training of its students through teaching, research and lifelong learning in an innovative and high quality environment, enhancing the multicultural, social and democratic experience. Located in the campus of Fundo island, Poli-UFRJ, together with Escola de Química (Chemistry School), COPPE and Instituto de Macromoléculas (Institute of macromolecules), is the Technology Centre (CT/UFRJ) where all the teaching, research and lifelong learning activities in the engineering sector take place. The university offers 13 engineering study programmes: Environmental, Civil, IT, Control and Automation, Electrotechnics, Electronics, Materials, Mechanics, Metallurgy, Naval and Ocean, Nuclear, Petroleum and Production Engineering. The joint work of graduating and graduate students produces a significant highly qualified scientific production, which gives rise to national and international publications. The success of its students in the labor market is remarkable: most of them are hired by big companies in Brazil and abroad, such as Petrobras, Renault, VW, Embraer, Michelin, Alstom, BHP Billiton, Accenture and others.
