UNIVERSITY OF ART AND DESIGN HALLE

HALLE, GERMANY - Partner university code: D HALLE03

The Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle (BURG) is a university of art and design founded in 1915. With more than 1,000 students, BURG is one of the largest universities of art and design in Germany. It offers 20 degree courses in art and design divided into two faculties. The school offers young people with artistic talent a wide range of artistic and theoretical teachings, as well as a place where they can experiment their skills and develop them at a professional level in an environment of intellectual exchange and practical cooperation with university teaching staff and classmates. Students receive a significant degree of freedom and are encouraged to follow their own individual pathways at the end of which they should be able to contribute to social discourse as individual, actively involved, critical and independent individuals. The framework to achieve this goal is provided by a training largely founded on the fundamentals of theory and practice, by well-equipped laboratories and workshops, by research and other projects - which may also involve cooperation with institutions and companies - and interdisciplinary links and dialogue . To support the learning path within the campus, it is possible to take advantage of the University's library of art and design, the most important specialized academic library for art and design of the 20th and 21st century. It is open to everyone, university members and external users of Halle and its surroundings have the right to borrow items. Alongside its overall collection of around 97,700 media and 159 periodicals and magazines, the Library also provides various audiovisual aids to be used in the library or to borrow. BURG participates in various international networks, has numerous contacts in Western Europe and also in Central and Eastern European universities. As part of the ERASMUS program, Burg Giebichenstein has cooperation agreements with 50 universities and partner schools in 20 countries in Europe.
