The Universidade de Coimbra, founded in Coimbra on 1 March 1290, is the oldest university education institution in Portugal. Currently the University of Coimbra has eight faculties: Literature, Law, Medicine, Science and Technology, Pharmacy, Economics, Psychology and Educational Science, Sports Science and Physical Education and about 22,000 students. The city and university have been classified as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO since June 2013 and have a thriving cultural life that offers a wide variety of literary courses, exhibitions, film cycles, music and dance performances, theatrical performances and others activities. The UC stands out for its central role in the production of knowledge and dissemination of the Portuguese language culture in the world, as well as for the universal value of its campus, which dates back to the 16th century. It is a leading university in the world that offers education and research at all levels of study and in almost all fields of study. UC is part of the Center for World University Ranking of the world's top 500 universities. It is also classified as one of the best 5-star universities by QS Stars University Ratings and has obtained a "very good" score (the highest classification) in the various U-Multirank indicators, particularly in the areas of research, teaching and internationalization. It is a large complex structure with three campuses, more than 25,000 students, of which 20% are international students of 106 different nationalities and 3020 members of the academic and non-academic staff who are highly active and engaged in the quality of research and education as well as at development of knowledge and technology transfer activities, which aim at the well-being of society and at the economic improvement of humanistic, artistic and scientific knowledge.
