The University of Malta has been over its 400-year history the hub for international academic exchange on the island and the leading higher education institution in Malta. University of Malta courses are designed to produce highly-qualified professionals in multiple disciplines and the university carries out academic research and provides a vibrant higher education setting in the arts, sciences and the humanities as required for Malta¿s economic, social and cultural development. English is the language of instruction at the University of Malta. The present campus opened in 1968 and was recently extended to include theater-type lecture rooms, language and computer laboratories. The sports complex includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool and separate diving pool, a football ground, tennis courts and a track.
