The public University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) dates back to 1495 and is one the oldest universities in the world. The USC was the first university established in the region of Galicia and has campuses in the cities of Santiago de Compostela and Lugo, both declared Wold Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The institution offers a variety of programmes at first, second and PhD level within the areas of Arts and Humanities, Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Law, Engineering and Architecture. A wide range of services and activities, such as sports, cultural events and volunteering services, all allow for an all-round academic experience. The USC has a strong international character and was recognised as International Campus of Excellence in 2009. Research and technology transfer are highly promoted and enhanced thanks to a solid network of unique research facilities, as well as through a wide range of cooperation projects.
