Founded in 1971, the Polytechnic University of Madrid is today the largest Spanish technical university. Although it is a young institution, its different schools have a history of more than a hundred years. The faculties of Architecture, Naval Engineering and Mining have been founded in the 18th and 19th centuries, and those of Civil Engineering and Industrial Engineering, that were two different faculties, wrote the history of Spanish technology until they were merged into a single university with today more than 41,000 students. Today, the university includes 21 different schools and works in many other technological fields such as Mechanical, Chemical and Nuclear Engineering and has, among its objectives, the creation, development, dissemination and criticism of science, technology and culture. Recognized as an International Campus of Excellence, UPM carries on education and research, working as close as possible with its Institutes and specialized centres, as well as developing different projects with national and international companies, therefore, it reaches the high quality standards recognized around the world. Its engineering schools are listed in Rankings as the best in Europe. More than 4,600 students takes their specialization in Engineering, Architecture, Fashion Design and Sports science and participate in courses that also allow the acquisition of transversal skills, such as the knowledge of foreign languages, the development of organizational and management skills and the knowledge of work through qualified internships in companies. Politecnico di Milano has, since many years, many and well-known short mobility agreements and Double Degree agreements with different Schools, as well as famous research projects.
