The opportunities

Erasmus+ and other programmes

Erasmus+

The programme of the European Community Erasmus+ allows you to study or work on your thesis at a university with which Politecnico di Milano has an exchange agreement for a maximum of 12 months.

You can leave for a destination in Europe or, starting from Call 2015, for a University outside Europe thanks to the KA171 Action called International Credit Mobility - ICM. This Action has allowed the mobility for students, faculty and staff outside Europe.

To participate in the Erasmus programme and carry out a mobility abroad for study/thesis, you must take part in the Call for International Mobility, which is published twice every year, and be selected. The selection is based on merit requirements, in particular the grades and credits obtained during your university career and on specific conditions linked to the particular exchange agreement.Once selected, you will be able to leave and start your mobility at the host institution. There you will have the possibility to attend courses and take exams, with the guarantee of obtaining the full recognition of the credits obtained abroad in your academic career.

Politecnico di Milano has more than 400 Erasmus+ agreements: the list of partner universities for your specific study programme is available in the Map of Partner Universities.

World Wide Exchange Programmes

(Bilateral Agreements)

Politecnico di Milano has agreements with a lot of non-EU universities that allow students to spend a study period abroad outside the European Union.
A mobility in a non-European country offers you not only an opportunity to study at a prestigious university, but also an extraordinary life experience.
Participation in an exchange programme guarantees you full recognition in your career of the credits (ECTS) obtained abroad.

Free movers

“Free Movers” are students who have international mobility and independently organize their period of study abroad. This mobility is not tied to an exchange project organized by the Politecnico di Milano, for example, Erasmus. It therefore occurs outside current agreements between the Politecnico di Milano and partner sites and the call for International mobility.

“Free Mover” mobility may be used to sit exams or to conduct thesis work, with different requirements for the candidacy process and approval from the Programme.

In the first case, the mobility may not be used for a site that has an exchange agreement with the Politecnico for the School in which the student is registered.

For more information about the rules and limitations for “Free Mover” mobility, consult the University guidelines and possible further indications from your School.

The request for “Free Mover” mobility should be presented through the designated function in Online Services.
