Vincenzo Columbo

Professor Vincenzo Columbo was appointed Full Professor of Urban Planning Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of Politecnico di Milano on 15 December 1965, where he was a voluntary assistant from 1933-34 and appointed professor from 1946-47. He held the position of Full Professor of this discipline until his retirement on 31 October 1980.

Professor Columbo dedicated himself to Politecnico with particular commitment, making an original contribution to the teaching of urban planning, territorial planning and technical valuation and leading many students to graduate in these sectors.

Professor Columbo held various positions: he was Head of the Institute of Urban Planning Engineering and of the Department of Engineering for Architectural and Land Restoration (into which the former merged) from 1965 to 1985; he was Director (and is currently Co-Director) of the postgraduate refresher course in Urban Planning Engineering for over 30 years and collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the launch of a new Faculty of Urban and Land Planning in Cairo and the training of Egyptian scholarship holders. A member of many national and international scientific associations, Professor Columbo was the author of over 200 papers on various topics of technical urban planning, making a key contribution in defining original methods and techniques.
