The Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, geographically located in the northern part of the Netherlands, has a rich academic tradition dating back to 1614. It offers high quality education and research in a wide range of disciplines organized in eleven faculties: Economics and Business, Social and Behavioral Sciences , Theology and Religious Studies, Arts, Medicine, Law, Space Sciences, Science and Engineering and Philosophy. It stands out in the international market through a close link between education and research, a field in which it also collaborates with commercial partners, public institutions and the government by stimulating the current debate on scientific, social and cultural issues and providing convincing perspectives and new ideas based on most recent scientific discoveries. Education and research in our university are internationally oriented, which is why the university has a strong international reputation and maintains a steady and rapidly increasing position in international rankings: it is among the top 100 positions in the ARWU Shanghai ranking and in the World University rankings. A fundamental aspect for the school is the ambitions and personal abilities of its students, to whom it offers intensive programs and the possibility of constantly testing themselves. Another of the main points of interest is internationalization, an important tool for improving quality, innovation and diversity, in fact at the moment more than 120 nationalities are studying or working in the University. The Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, specifically, hosts a large number of disciplines, research and training programs ranging from nanomaterials and biomachines to astronomy, from mathematics to pharmacy, from neuroscience to computer science, from molecular and evolutionary biology to Marine biology. Researchers pursue key scientific questions in collaboration with industry partners and continuously explore new fields such as synthetic biology and sustainable energy use.
