Tax Code is an alphanumerical code which in Italy is used to carry out several administrative procedures, such as opening a bank account, purchasing a telephone card or a transport card and, last but not least, obtaining Politecnico di Milano PoliCard. For this reason, it is necessary to obtain it as soon as possible!

Obtain the tax code from the italian representative abroad

You can refer to the Italian Representative in your country in order to have your Tax Code. Once you have it, type it in your OnLine Services (“MyData” section) and upload the certificate of attribution.

Tax Code generated on Universitaly website is not official. Please, do not update your OnLine Services with it.

Obtain the tax code with politecnico di milano support

Politecnico di Milano can ask the Agenzia delle Entrate (Revenue Agency) for its students’ Tax Code.

In order to obtain it by the end of July it is necessary to pay the Administrative Fee and upload the passport (or Identity Card for EU students only) by May 31st.

The request is automatically sent, and no further actions are required from the students. Once the Tax Code is available, usually in a few weeks, the students are notified by e-mail.

In order to complete the procedures related to the enrolment you need to submit the original documents listed below. In case of missing documentation, in accordance with the existing rules, Politecnico di Milano will revoke the enrolment.

Please find below the required documents, valid for all students:

  1. Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor) diploma or a graduation certificate issued by a competent office (*)
  2. One of the following documents:

    • CIMEA Statement of Comparability
    • Diploma Supplement if issued by your university (*)
    • Declaration of value (Dichiarazione di Valore) issued by the competent Italian Diplomatic Representative, related to the Bachelor degree. This document attests the validity and eligibility of your degree to pursue your studies in the second cycle

The Bachelor degree/graduation certificate must be verifiable online through one of the following documents:

    • CIMEA Statement of Verification
    • electronic Apostille (paper Apostille is no longer accepted). Please check this link for the list of competent authorities for the issuance of the Apostille in each Country and make sure the e-Apostille is available
    • online database provided by the institution issuing the degree. The link to the database and consultation modalities must be provided by the institution itself
  3. D type Student visa for Italy (non-EU students residing abroad only). Student visa must be obtained before the beginning of classes (mid-September)
  4. Original certificate of English language (and Italian language, for students admitted to MSc programmes held in Italian language). For students whose previous Bachelor's degree was taught in English, unless clearly specified on the Diploma supplement, an official ORIGINAL letter from Institution is required.
You can check this page (section LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY) for all the details about the language certificates accepted.

(*) Unless bachelor degree or diploma supplement are not issued by the university directly in English, French or Spanish, a translation made by a sworn translator is mandatory. Politecnico di Milano accepts translations in Italian (preferably), English, French or Spanish.

Please note: translations obtained from translators or Tribunals in Italy will not be accepted.

Declaration of value, when necessary, must be obtained by the competent Italian Representatives your University system belongs to (e.g.: for a university with British educational system in Peruvian territory the authorities of reference are those of the UK).

COUNTRY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

For all details regarding CIMEA Statement of Verification and Statement of Comparability, please check their website.

In order to enrol at Politecnico di Milano, Non-EEA citizens residing abroad need to apply for a Study visa issued by the Italian Diplomatic representatives in the country of residence.

Students who intend to withdraw (or have lost their student status) from their current academic career in an Italian university in order to activate a new one at Politecnico di Milano must apply for a new visa, as the residence permit for study purposes loses its validity in case of withdrawal.

As a consequence, students currently attending a Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) program in an Italian university, having a foreign bachelor degree, who intend to move to another Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) program at Politecnico di Milano, must apply for a transfer from their current university. Please note that transfer is allowed at the beginning of the first semester only.

Visa application on universitaly website

Students admitted to the 1st semester must submit their visa application on Universitaly website by the end of June, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ regulations, in order to obtain it before the beginning of classes (mid-September).

The deadline to obtain the visa for students enrolled in the 1st semester is November 29th, whereas for the students enrolled in the 2nd semester is March 31st.

Create your own account on UNIVERSITALY

Submit your visa application by following this STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL and make sure all details are correct before proceeding. Politecnico di Milano will not change the inserted data.

Don’t forget: Tax Code generated on Universitaly website is not official (and not mandatory for the visa application). Do not update your OnLine Services with it, and do not use it.

Please make sure to add your Politecnico di Milano person code (eight numbers, starting with 10 or 11) as “ID account at the chosen University/AFAM/Institute” to allow us to track your visa application faster.

In order to be able to submit your visa application, it is enough to upload both passport and picture. However, we suggest you verify with the Italian Representative in your Country whether it is mandatory or not to upload further documents (i.e. enrolment documents).

Validation of visa application on universitaly

Politecnico di Milano will confirm your name to the Italian Diplomatic representatives through Universitaly portal only once your degree has been verified by Politecnico di Milano with the modalities specified in the section PREPARE DOCUMENTS FOR THE ENROLMENT (plus it's necessary a valid language certificate, which has to be verified by the Admissions Office, and it's compulsory for the enrolment. The original language certificate must be submitted upon arrival).

Diploma Supplement, Declaration of Value and CIMEA Statement of Comparability can be submitted afterwards, in any case not later than November 29th.

All documents must be uploaded as PDF file in your online admission application account, in the "Enrolment documents" section.

Once your visa application is validated, both you and the Italian Representative are notified by e-mail about such validation. From that moment, you can get in touch with the Representative and book an appointment to proceed further.

Should your visa be denied or not ready by the given deadline, you will not be allowed to proceed with your studies. In this case, you will be refunded the amount of the first instalment paid.

Please note: to make sure the refund is successful, it is mandatory to update your bank details at this link in the OnLine Services: Management of payment methods

Need help?

The visa application procedure depends only on the Diplomatic representatives and Politecnico di Milano cannot interfere with the process.

Politecnico di Milano's validation of students' pre-enrolment on Universitaly website does not confer any rights upon obtaining a visa.

As soon as you get the documents required for enrolment (see the section above “Prepare documents for the enrolment”) from the Italian Diplomatic Representative abroad or from CIMEA, and possibly within the end of the enrolment window, please upload the documents as PDF file in your online admission application account, in the "Enrolment documents" section.

All documents required for the enrolment, must be uploaded online within November 29th for students enrolled in the 1st semester, and March 31st for students enrolled in the 2nd semester.

The pre-enrolment on Universitaly will be validated only once the enrolment documents required are uploaded in your online services.

All students must submit their original language certificate (check the full list of certificates accepted) in person to the competent office by November 29th for students enrolled in the 1st semester, and March 31st for students enrolled in the 2nd semester.

In case of missing documentation, in accordance with the existing rules, Politecnico di Milano will revoke the enrolment.

PASSPORT/IDENTITY CARD VALIDATION

All students must show their original passport (or identity card for EU students only) and visa (for non-EU students only) for official identification to the office in charge. Identification allows students to use Politecnico di Milano wi-fi, download software licences and have their examination grades registered.

The enrolment can be considered officially over only once documents assessment and passport/identity card validation have been completed.

All students must complete an online enrolment within the given deadlines. The enrolment can be considered officially over only once the documents have been verified by the office in charge, including the language certificate and the student visa, if necessary.

Can't see the "enrol" button?
If you have updated the information related to your personal details and previous career, and have uploaded a valid language certificate but still cannot enrol, this is due to a formal step your professor must still carry out on your application. Please note it is just a technical issue that is usually solved within the enrolment deadline; we suggest you check your pre-application every now and then, until you see the “Enrol” button.

If you need help, you can check this step-by-step tutorial of the enrolment procedure.
